DIME PROJECT

Operationalizing AI governance in healthcare

Right now, most health organizations lack the tools to manage AI safely and sustainably. A recent survey found that 82% of more than 230 health systems have limited or no governance processes for AI. And the frameworks that do exist are often abstract, leaving leaders without actionable guidance on risk mitigation, performance monitoring, or sustainable integration.

This gap prevents AI from delivering on its potential and creates unnecessary barriers for responsible innovation.

The Connected Health Collaborative Community (CHcc) by the Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) is a collaborative community with the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. It is convening leaders across the ecosystem to create the first open-source toolkit for operationalizing AI governance in healthcare. Instead of introducing new frameworks, the project team will organize and integrate existing guidance into practical resources that work.

Be the first to see what’s coming!

Our project cohort is underway! Together with partners across healthcare, we’re developing practical, ready-to-use resources that help organizations put AI governance into practice by November 2026.

From strategy to impact

This project will deliver enterprise-ready risk mitigation strategies, active performance management tools, and sustainable integration resources. Through focused development sprints, partners will co-create templates, scorecards, dashboards, and workflows that bring accountability and transparency to AI deployment. Case studies and real-world examples will demonstrate measurable improvements in operational efficiency, financial outcomes, and patient safety.

A significant step in advancing DiMe’s Healthcare 2030 vision for a sustainable health system in the digital era, this effort builds directly on The Playbook: Implementing AI in Healthcare, developed with Google for Health and more than 30 partners to help organizations identify high-value AI use cases and move responsibly from pilots to scale. Building on the high-value AI use cases identified in The Playbook, this initiative focuses on the immediate and consequential areas of AI in healthcare.
