Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize healthcare—but that potential often remains out of reach in the settings that need it most. Many community-based and low-resource healthcare organizations face real barriers to implementation, including limited funding, staff capacity, technical infrastructure, and access to expertise.
To help bridge this gap, DiMe—supported by funding from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation—is developing a series of online courses designed to equip healthcare delivery organizations with the knowledge and skills to implement AI safely, effectively, and equitably.
This course series will:
Build foundational AI literacy for clinicians, administrators, and operations leaders in low-resource healthcare settings
Demystify AI concepts and use cases, showing how AI can address real-world clinical and operational challenges
Equip teams with practical tools to evaluate organizational readiness and align AI with their care delivery needs
Guide responsible implementation by helping learners assess, select, and integrate AI solutions into existing workflows
Support long-term success through strategies for ethical use, sustainability, and continuous improvement
Health AI Essentials: A Primer for Aspiring AI Champions in Low-Resource Healthcare Settings is the first course in this series— a practical, non-technical course built specifically for healthcare professionals in low-resource settings. Whether you’re a clinician, administrator, or healthcare leader, this course will help you understand how AI works, how it can support your goals, and what it takes to adopt it responsibly.
You’ll gain a solid foundation in the fundamentals, explore real-world examples tailored to low-resource care environments, and develop the confidence to assess, advocate for, or implement AI solutions that make sense for your organization.
Health AI Implementation: A Practical Roadmap for Low-Resource Settings is the second series, designed for healthcare professionals ready to move beyond foundational AI knowledge and integrate it into. This course provides operational and clinical leaders in low-resource settings with the tools, frameworks, and real-world strategies needed to plan, implement, and scale AI solutions responsibly.
You’ll learn how to identify the right problems for AI to solve, evaluate and select appropriate tools, assess organizational readiness, and manage change across teams and workflows. Through practical examples and step-by-step guidance, this course helps you move from AI exploration to confident, ethical, and effective implementation.
